The vegan revolution is coming, people!
Eric Schmidt, the Executive Chairman of Google’s parent company Alphabet, has confirmed that the vegan revolution is coming after stating that replacing livestock with growing and harvesting plants will reduce greenhouse gas and fight climate change.
Yay for high profile supporters of the plant-based life!
According to Rise of the Vegan, he has said that the number one game changing trend of the future is eating plant-based proteins instead of meat.
He brought up many relevant points including the millions of starving people in developing countries, the inefficiency of selling a pound of meat vs pound of plant-based food, and the rise of technology to create synthetic food from plants.
Google recently tried to buy Impossible Foods for $300 million last year but their offer was rejected. In case you hadn’t heard, Impossible Foods are working on making a meatless burger that is indistinguishable from the “real thing”.
As vegans, we already know that the meat industry is unsustainable and that the world will move to a plant-based diet in the future whether they like it or not. But it’s good to know that big business is starting to pay attention and realise that there is plenty of money to be made from plant-based food and mock meats.
Regardless of the fact that these realisations don’t come from ethical concerns, it’s still a step in the right direction for veganism and for animal rights.
